Moments (Turning Forces)

A moment is another name for a turning force.  This idea is used when using a spanner to tighten or loosen a nut. The longer the handle the easier it is to turn

 

A moment can be calculated using the following equation

Moment = force applied multiplied by the perpendicular distance from the pivot (or turning point) as shown here.
