Energy

Energy transfers can take many forms in the first example the kinetic energy in a pole vaulter is transferred into elastic potential energy.  this in turn is converted into gravitational potential energy.

In this demonstration gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy and back again. Its worth keeping your eye on this one

When a tennis ball is struck by a racket the kinetic energy from the racket is converted into elastic potential energy as the ball is squashed.  As the ball returns to its original shape the elastic potential energy is converted into kinetic energy

When water falls due to gravitational potential energy this can be transferred into the kinetic energy required to drive a water wheel. this in turn can drive other machinery.

A falling mass converts gravitational potential energy into kinetic energy.  Assuming that all the masses fall from the same height, the greater the mass the greater the energy that can be transferred when it strikes the nail.

This video shows the physics of a roller coaster ride and the energy transfers that occur during the run.
